Rovos Rail – Pride of Africa
Rovos Rail is something more than a train; it is a journey into the romantic atmosphere of a bygone era, when the British elite experienced and discovered the secrets of Africa in an elegant, refined style. This atmosphere has been preserved in the luxurious carriages from the 1920s and 30s, richly decorated with wood paneling, inlaid ceilings, plush carpets, and furniture of the highest standard.
The original, truly majestic, and one of the most luxurious trains in the world — the Class 6 Tiffany from 1989 and its luxuriously restored carriages — will take us on a magical journey from Pretoria to Victoria Falls. The train is perfectly matched to European standards, offering the highest level of comfort. Meals are served in elegant dining cars. The two lounges — one with an observation deck — are perfect for socializing. A favorite spot for many passengers is the rear panoramic viewing car, which features large windows and accommodates just 28 passengers. There is also a boutique with souvenirs and African handicrafts on board. The train has no radios or TVs — thanks to that, we can truly relax in peace. In the evenings, the dress code is slightly more formal, and passengers are invited to elegant dinners. From Pretoria to Victoria Falls, we will travel through the private game reserve of Capital Park in Pretoria. Then, we will pass through the scenic Highveld savannas of Mpumalanga, the subtropical region of KwaZulu-Natal, and continue through the wildlife-rich areas of Zimbabwe.
The trip is approximately 1600 kilometers long, during which we will pass through the historical city of Warmbaths (now Bela-Bela), famous for its thermal springs, through the highlands of the Waterberg region, the bushveld near the town of Groblersdal, and then reach the vast plains of the baobab-dotted region of Botswana. During a two-night stay in the Matobo National Park, we will visit the grave of Cecil Rhodes. We will also see one of the lowest-lying parks in Zimbabwe, where elephants, lions, rhinos, and buffaloes roam among the grasslands. The crowning jewel of our journey is the station in Victoria Falls, located within walking distance of the world’s most beautiful waterfalls — Victoria Falls. In this magical African wonderland, our journey aboard one of the world’s most luxurious trains — known as the Pride of Africa — will come to a close.
